How to connect your Coinbase account to Stax
VerifiedFills arrive in your journal as they happen and Stax signs each one, so a trade you share carries proof it was real. Read-only access is all Stax asks for — it reads your fill history and can never place an order.
-
Go to portal.cdp.coinbase.com/access/api and click Create API key.
-
For permissions enable View only — no Trade, no Transfer, no Receive. Leave Portfolio on Default and the IP allowlist empty.
-
Click Create and download the file Coinbase shows you once. You need two values out of it:
name → API Key Name privateKey → Private Key (PEM)
-
In the left sidebar, open Connections.
-
Click Add Connection.
-
In Select Connection, search for Coinbase and click it. Three cards open: Auto-Sync, Import CSV File and Add Manually.
-
Choose the Auto-Sync card.
-
Paste them into API Key Name and Private Key (PEM), then click Connect. Paste the private key exactly as Coinbase wrote it — Stax tidies up the line breaks itself.
How to import Coinbase trades into Stax from a file
The route for everything you traded before you connected. One statement covers the whole life of the account.
-
Log in and open Sidebar → See All → Taxes → Statements.
-
Click Generate Custom Statement.
-
Set it up to cover everything, then click GENERATE:
Assets: All · Transaction Types: All · Date Range: Custom — from the day you opened the account to today · Format: CSV
-
In the left sidebar, open Connections.
-
Click Add Connection, then pick Coinbase.
-
Of the three cards, choose Import CSV File.
-
Click Choose File and select your .csv. Stax knows the Coinbase statement layout, so there is nothing to map.
-
Check the matched trades in the preview, then confirm the import.
